First ever Edcamp Lacey!
Edcamp Lacey is a free professional development opportunity for all educators of all districts, levels, and subjects. Edcamps focus on the participants by collaboratively determining all session topics the morning of the event based on the experiences and needs of those in attendance. Best of all, if your find yourself in a session that is not benefitting you, you are encouraged to get up and find another session that does!
Where do I go? Edcamp Lacey will be held at Mill Pond Elementary School in Lanoka Harbor, NJ. You'll want to park near the "rear entrance", which is around the back of the Mill Pond school.
What will happen when I arrive? You'll be greeted and will check in. Then you'll grab some breakfast as we work together to fill in the session board. Here's the complete schedule for your convenience:
7:30 - 8:35 Check-In, Breakfast, Complete the Session Board
8:35 - 9:00 Welcome
9:10 - 10:00 Session 1
10:10 - 11:00 Session 2
11:10 - 12:00 Session 3
12:10 - 1:00 App Smash/Prizes/Closing in Cafeteria
But I've never been to an Edcamp…what if I need some guidance? There will be an Edcamp 101 area set up just for newbies! You can also see any of us the organizing committee members…we’ll be wearing navy blue t-shirts that say Lacey Staff.
What should I bring? Feel free to bring a laptop/tablet/smartphone to Edcamp, as we’ll have an online session board and shared Google Docs for each session. You can also bring a pen and paper if you like taking notes that way. You can bring your ticket, but we can also look you up on Eventbrite.
What will there be to eat? Free breakfast will be provided. If you have dietary concerns or preferences that keep you from eating the provided food, feel free to bring a bagged breakfast/lunch.
I have a friend who wants to come. Is it too late? No it’s not too late! Bring ‘em along! Preregistration was encouraged, but not required, so last-minute walk-ins are welcome!
Is it all 'tech' stuff? Oh, no, not at all! We were recently surprised by this question, and wanted to make sure everyone knows that the whole day focuses on education in general. The sessions are determined by the interests of those in attendance. We will have phys ed teachers, superintendents, high school teachers, preschool teachers, board of education members, math specialists....the day will be about whatever is created out of the diversity of attendee suggestions...and there will probably be some tech sessions, too!
I was planning to come, but something came up and I won’t be able to stay the whole day. I’m bummed…is it possible to come for part of the time? We’re sorry to hear you won’t be able to stay until the end, but of course, come for what you can! We’d be glad to have you join us for however long you can be there.
On behalf of the Edcamp Organizing Committee, we look forward to seeing you!
