Using the Edcamp Sites Means You Accept These Policies
In order to protect your personal information, the Foundation has put in place what the Foundation believes to be reasonable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure your personal data. We use industry-leading Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to protect your Personal Data on our Foundation Website to protect against the loss, misuse and unauthorized alteration of the information under our control. The Foundation helps to protect your information by working with partners that provide a secure and safe environment for credit card donations. All information is stored in a secure database. Please remember that the safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where we have given you (or you have chosen) a logon ID or password to access certain services or areas of the Websites, you are responsible for keeping this ID and/or password confidential. We ask that you not share such information with anyone or allow anyone to sign-in using your credentials.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal or sensitive information transmitted to us. Any transmission of personal or sensitive information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures we put in place for your protection.
Overview on Collection and Sharing of Information
We use information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including any Personal Data, in the following ways:
- To present the Edcamp Sites and its contents in a suitable and effective manner for you and for your computer;
- To provide you with information, products or services that you request from us (that you may opt out of via instruction in email messages);
- To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us; and
- To notify you about changes to the Edcamp Sites or Services at our discretion.
Information that we may gather falls into two broad categories: Personal Data and Aggregate Data.
Collection and Sharing of Personal Data
Personal Data is information that could reasonably be used to identify Users, such as name, address, email address, birth date, financial information, telephone number, or any combination of the foregoing (“Personal Data”). We do not collect Personal Data about users except when such Personal Data is knowingly provided by you. For example, we must ask you for certain information when you choose to create a User Profile, when you sign up to receive our e-newsletter or when you make a donation.
If you do not wish to provide Personal Data or if you do not agree to have us use the information, it is your responsibility to notify us accordingly and to decline the use of those Services for which the Personal Data is sought.
When Personal Data is submitted to us, we may add it to our database. Personal Data may also be disclosed to the Foundation’s employees, independent contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve the Edcamp Services. When Personal Data is provided in connection with a donation made to the Foundation through the Foundation Website, we will only use the information provided for purposes of processing, reporting, and documenting the donation. We do not store or retain your credit card information; we use PayPal to process your credit card information which is not permitted to store, retain, or use billing information except for the purpose of credit card processing on the Foundation’ behalf.
You can request to review, change, update or delete Personal Data that you have previously submitted to us. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before we grant you access to your Personal Data and comply with your request. Please be aware that even after such a request is processed, the Foundation may, for a time, retain residual information about you in our backup and/or archival copies of our database.
Additionally, the Edcamp Sites may contain message boards, chat rooms, forums, bulletin boards, surveys and other interactive features that allow you to post, submit, publish, display or transmit to the Foundation or other users content or materials on or through the Edcamp Sites. Such information may be available to and searchable by the public on the Edcamp Sites.
If you create a User Profile, you are responsible for the accuracy and currency of the data provided in your User Profile. You shall be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your User Profile. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to safeguard such information. You shall notify the Foundation in a timely manner of any known or suspected unauthorized use of your account, or any known or suspected breach of security, including loss, theft, or unauthorized use or disclosure of your password. You are responsible for all usage or activity on your account, including use of the account by any third party authorized by you to use your username and password. The Foundation reserves the right to terminate your account at any time, or to modify or discontinue the Edcamp Services, each in the Foundation’s sole discretion.
We may use your email address to send you Edcamp Sites-related notices (including any notices required by law, in lieu of communication by postal mail). We may also use your contact information to send you marketing messages. If you do not want to receive such messages, you may opt out by following the instructions in the message, or by contacting us at 1100 E. Hector Street, Suite 430, Conshohocken, PA 19428 or calling (610) 897-8701. Such requests will be honored within ten (10) business days. If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address and our responses.
The Foundation may collect records and copies of your correspondence with us (including email addresses) if you contact us.
Your California Privacy Rights. California Civil Code Section § 1798.83 permits users of the Edcamp Sites that are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, please contact us [HYPERLINK]. Under Section § 1798.83, we currently do not share any personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Collection and Sharing of Aggregate Data
Aggregate Data is information that does not personally identify you such as demographic information, frequency of visits to the Site, page views, Edcamp Services most frequently accessed, referrer addresses, where your computer is routing from, your browser type and version, or your operating system and platform (“Aggregate Data”). We use Aggregate Data to help us develop and improve the Services and Edcamp Sites overall.
We may share Aggregate Data (such as anonymous usage data, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, number of clicks, etc.) with interested third parties to help them understand the usage patterns for certain of the Foundation’ services.
Cookies. When you visit the Edcamp Sites, we may send one or more “cookies” - small data files - to your computer to uniquely identify your browser and let the Foundation help you log in faster and enhance your navigation through the Edcamp Sites. A cookie may convey anonymous information about how you browse the Edcamp Sites to us, but it does not collect personal information about you. A persistent cookie remains on your computer after you close your browser so that it can be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the Edcamp Sites. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Edcamp Sites may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.
Log files. Log file information is automatically reported by your browser each time you access a web page. When you use the Edcamp Sites, our servers may automatically record certain information that your web browser sends whenever you visit any website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, referring/exit pages and URLs, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed, and other such information.
Do Not Track Requests; Third Party Tracking. We do not currently take actions to respond to Do Not Track signals sent by your web browser because a uniform technological standard has not yet been developed. We may adopt a standard once one is created. Third parties, other than our vendors (such as our website analytics provider), do not have authorization from us to track which websites you visited prior to and after visiting the Edcamp Sites. That said, we cannot control third party tracking and there may be some third party tracking that occurs without our knowledge or consent.
Clear GIFs Information. When you use the Edcamp Sites, we may employ clear GIFs (also known as web beacons) which are used to track the online usage patterns of our users anonymously. No personally identifiable information is collected using these clear GIFs. In addition, we may also use clear GIFs in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened by recipients. The information is used to enable more accurate reporting and make the Edcamp Sites and Service better for our users.
Sharing, Selling and Trading Aggregate Data Collected Online With Third Parties
We take the privacy of our users very seriously. We do not sell, rent or otherwise provide your Personal Data to third parties for marketing purposes without your prior consent. We may, however, sell, share or trade Aggregate Data to third parties and use Aggregate Data for any other lawful purpose.
We will only disclose personally identifiable information we collect from you to third parties without your permission to the extent necessary:
- To comply with the law or in response to a civil or criminal subpoena, court order, government request, or other legal process or request from law enforcement personnel;
- If we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request;
- To address fraud, security or technical issues;
- To protect the interests, rights, safety, or property of the Foundation or others;
- To enforce any terms of service on the Edcamp Sites;
- To provide you with the services or products requested by you and to perform other activities related to such services and products, including billing and collection;
- To operate the Foundation’ systems properly.
We may store personal information in locations outside the direct control of the Foundation (for instance, on servers or databases co-located with hosting providers). We may share or disclose your information with your consent, such as if you choose to sign on to the Edcamp Sites through a third-party service. We cannot control third parties’ use of your information.
Privacy of Children
The Foundation does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of thirteen (13) or knowingly allow such persons to register with the Edcamp Sites. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under age of thirteen (13) without verified parental consent, we will delete that information from the Edcamp Sites.
